Bed slats
The bed frame and mattress are a duo that affects our comfort during sleep, and thus - increases the efficiency of rest. With proper support, the springs in the mattress work better, and the interior is ventilated, which prolongs its life. What kind of bed base to choose to work best with the furniture? What to pay attention to in order to match the frame to the size and type of mattress?
Classic bed frames
When we think of a bed base, we probably have in mind the simplest construction consisting of parallel planks of the same length and width arranged on a strip. Such uncomplicated, classic variants are still in use and are quite popular, mainly due to their low price.
However, it should be borne in mind that these types of bed frames will not work well for all types of mattresses, especially foam ones. However, they will be sufficient for classic spring mattresses.
When buying such a simple mattress frame, it is worth paying attention not only to its size, but also to the hardness of the wood used in its manufacture and the number of slats. The more slats and the smaller the distance separating the individual elements, the more stable the structure will be and the more comfortable it will be for us.
Is it worth opting for a flexible bed base?
A slightly more modern option are flexible bed frames. What sets them apart? The most significant advantage of this type of construction is that they not only support the mattress, but also work with it, adapting to the user's movements and load. This equates to increased comfort compared to classic models, as well as prolonging the life of the mattress, which wears less than when the underside remains stationary.
Flexible bed bottoms also make it possible to adjust the degree of mattress firmness for individual zones, especially in the middle and shoulder areas. With this solution, the frame and mattress perfectly adapt to the shape of the spine and its position in a particular sleeping position. Thus, they are able to provide it with better support than usual and ensure that we get up in the morning without back pain.
The most popular types of flexible bed frames are those consisting of 18 and 28 slats. The former are ideal for supporting pocket and foam mattresses. The latter, on the other hand, will work well for other types of mattresses, including thermoelastic and high-flexible, latex and multipocket.
Flexible bed frames can be used in duet with all types of mattresses except those with a high degree of firmness. A good choice will be models characterized by high elasticity. This property will be enhanced by elastic straps holding the slats of the bottom of the bed, making the structure work perfectly with our body during sleep. As a result, we can count on a successful and effective rest.
Additional amenities of mattress supports
If our bed is equipped with a bedding container, we may decide to choose a bed base that will make it easier to use. Then a frame with a lifting frame and gas cylinders will be useful, so that lifting the entire structure will not require a lot of force.
The comfort of the mattress and the frame under it can also be increased by a function for adjusting the headrest and footrest. Thanks to it you can freely adjust their height to suit your needs. We can choose between manual and electric adjustment. In the latter case, all you need to do is to connect the mechanism to the mains, and then change the alignment of the slats in the upper and lower parts of the mattress frame using the remote control.
