How to hide a bed
in the living room? living room design idea with bedroom
A flat with a small footprint needs to be designed in the most functional way possible. Especially if you want to fit not only the living room and the kitchen, but also the bedroom in one room. We looked for the answer to the question of how to hide the bed in the living room together with Alice, who did not want to give up the traditional frame in favour of a sofa bed.
Although sofas with a sleeping function are particularly popular for studios, they are not the only possible choice. The heroine of today's article was keen to recuperate on a large bed after long journeys. This, together with the fold-out table, became the heart of the living room in her small flat.
How do you create a comfortable living and sleeping area? The easy-to-use VOXBOX programme helped us find the best idea this time too. By testing various configurations and making various changes, we arrived at the ideal arrangement for the tenant. The realistic visualisation allowed us to make sure that the full-size bed would not only fit, but would also complement the interior design. Below, we share the tips that helped us achieve a satisfactory result.
LIVING ROOM-BEDROOM DESIGN - THE BASICS ARE IMPORTANT
When combining so many functions in a small space, the smallest decisions are of great importance and should be well planned.
To make the whole arrangement look coherent, practical and functional, it is important not only to position the furniture correctly, but also to choose the right colour of the walls or the floor. It is important that the colours that appear in the interior naturally reflect the light and do not optically reduce the size of the room.
For the living room-bedroom project in question, we wanted the space to provide a safe haven in which to calm down and relax. Alicia has a busy lifestyle, so she particularly liked the calm shades of wood, white and grey. The VOX designer suggested laying a robust Skandinavien plank in an oak shade on the floor and soundproofing the lounge area with decorative Linerio Natural panels.
The area between the kitchen cabinets is protected by Kerradeco panels, which not only protect the walls from splashes, but also cleverly demarcate the kitchenette. To optically elevate the space, we painted the ceiling white.
HOW TO HIDE A BED IN THE LIVING ROOM? MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR HOME'S LAYOUT
A partition, a partition wall or a double-sided bookcase can help us to use a small space in a functional way. Thanks to such elements, we can cleverly separate the day zone from the night zone, hiding the bed, which is an intimate piece of furniture for each occupant. Unfortunately, this time the square footage of the flat and the position of the windows did not allow for such a solution. In order to make Ali's dream of a full-size bed come true, we used the layout of the room to create an alcove, which was originally planned as a TV area.
In order to somewhat hide the bedroom, which was designed in the living room, our stylist matched the Creative bed to the other furniture in the interior. The same legs, the simple shape and the natural décor made the arrangement harmonious and the studio coherent in its perception. We also dispensed with the traditional bed top and installed soft upholstered panels instead. These not only decorate the interior, but also make the bed a comfortable space for evening reading.
As befits a real bedroom, this area could not lack a bedside table and a spacious three-door wardrobe for clothes. The capacious drawers of the Nature chest of drawers, on the other hand, are designed to accommodate all travel accessories. Tucked away and tidy, they will not only stay dust-free, but will also always be at hand, ready for your next trip.
BED IN THE LIVING ROOM - ARRANGEMENTS OF OTHER AREAS
Opposite the bedroom, we planned a lounge area with a comfortable Noel sofa with a sleeping function. Alicia wanted the sofa, which will be located in her flat, not to take up a lot of space, but to be able to provide a comfortable night's sleep for her friends, who have so far often stayed with her on a folding mattress. Next to the sofa stood a coffee table with wide shelves for storing books or albums, and a RTV cabinet with drawers for film discs. An additional uszak armchair ensures that, when guests visit, Ala can look easily into the eyes of her interlocutors.
On the same side of the room, we designed a kitchenette with a dining area. Our protagonist loves to cook and brings inspiration from her travels into her kitchen. The fold-out table doesn't take up much space on a daily basis, but will accommodate a sizeable group of revelers when needed. What's more, thanks to the comfortable Simple chairs, it can occasionally turn into a workspace. The ergonomic shape of the seat and backrest appeals to Alicja, who is quite tall, yet has no problem with adopting a comfortable position.
A BEDROOM IN THE LIVING ROOM - A DESIGN THOUGHT THROUGH IN DETAIL
Hiding the bed in the living room was not the only challenge we faced. It was equally important to choose accessories in such a way that the interior was cosy and allowed us to freely use colourful accessories - handmade ceramics, patterned cushions or woven coasters, which the occupant loves. Therefore, we introduced timeless paintings framed in wood-coloured frames, whose aesthetic refers to the rest of the furnishings. The Ombra rattan pendant lamps, which provide soft, diffused light, also make an interesting addition to the design.
To make Alice's daily activities easier, we also placed a simple wall lamp on a movable arm next to the TV, allowing the direction of light to be controlled. A floor or chest of drawers lamp, which can be moved to where the extra light is most needed, also provides freedom of use of the space.
Finding an idea for a living room with a bedroom is no easy task. Fortunately, you can use the free VOXBOX programme, which allows you to test different configurations of furniture and match them to the space, as well as view various combinations of floors, walls and doors. Thanks to this, we can easily hide a bed in the living room or find space for a wardrobe. Fully intuitive and comfortable to use, the application can be a tool for anyone who dreams of becoming an interior designer, at least for a while. When the work is done, we will receive a ready-made estimate along with a shopping list, which can be ordered straight away. To make sure we have made the best decisions, we can consult an advisor in one of the VOX showrooms.
