How to decorate a hallway? the business card of every home
When arranging a hallway, we want it to become a representative place, but also comfortable and functional. In this way, it will help us to welcome our guests with dignity and make everyday organisation easier.
Arranging a hallway is an interesting challenge. We want to fit as many functions as possible into a small room, which is usually deprived of direct sunlight - and at the same time we also want to make sure that its interior becomes a showpiece of the house, which tells us about ourselves.
To make this happen, let's consider what we need most for our daily rituals and adapt every element of the hallway to them: from the furniture to the floor. In this way, we can create a cosy, practical and well-organised interior even in a small space.
FLOOR AND WALLS IN THE HALLWAY
When starting to arrange your hallway, first of all take into account the amount of space available and the natural light that illuminates the interior. If there isn't a lot of space, light colours are best for the walls and floor. This will make the interior feel light and appear slightly larger than it really is. If you have a bit more space, you can also experiment with darker and more expressive colours.
However, it is worth bearing in mind that the entrance hall is an interior that is particularly vulnerable to moisture and dirt brought in from outside. Kerradeco laminate is ideal for this, as its surface is durable and easy to clean. It can easily withstand muddy shoes, wet hair or a bicycle leaning against the wall. The panels can be easily matched to your own ideas for hallway design, choosing from over a dozen designs: from smooth white, through modern concrete, to traditional wood.
The floor also has to prove its resilience. After all, the rhythm of the day in the entrance hall is set by shoes, heels and dog claws. It is therefore advisable to choose a material with increased resistance to wear and tear. For example, flooring with AC3 - AC5 class or the extremely resistant to moisture and dirt Rigio vinyl flooring.
FUNCTIONALITY TO MATCH
The right hallway furnishings will make it easier to carry out everyday tasks and thus save valuable time. In a well-organised space, everything is within easy reach - and this is extremely important, especially when time is at a premium. After all, we don't want to be frantically running around the house looking for our house keys or car keys.
A hanging shelf with hooks provides space for the most needed items. They will be within easy reach whenever you are putting on your coat or jacket. Keys, a lanyard or a wallet can also land on a capacious chest of drawers, which we can arrange ourselves using the white, grey and black modules of the Balance collection. The intuitive online configurator available on the website will allow us to quickly design a piece of furniture perfectly suited to our needs and interior dimensions.
If only we have enough space, it is worth placing a wardrobe in the hallway. This is where you can store outerwear, seasonal clothing and other useful items, such as a hoover or dog accessories. There is room for everything in the Stor wardrobe, which has adjustable shelves, roomy drawers and plenty of space for clothes hangers. Thanks to its sliding doors, it is even suitable for use in narrow hallways.
The Simple corner wardrobe will be ideal for less spacious corridors. We can choose the colour of the fronts, carcass and legs ourselves, and by buying an extension piece we can quickly and easily increase its storage space. The wardrobe also features motion-sensor-activated LED lighting, so that when you return home at night, you won't have to wake the rest of the family.
THE HALLWAY, THE KINGDOM OF SHOES
When decorating the hallway, we should also look for a suitable place for shoes. A light-coloured shoe cup board can hold many pairs of shoes and, thanks to its wall-mounting system, it won't take up too much space. In addition to shoes, there is also a practical, lockable Shoeshine Box, in which you can store brushes, polishes and shoe care rags.
To make it easier to put on your shoes, place a bench with a drawer inthe hall, which can also be fitted with a comfortable cushion in one of two colours - green or grey. Thanks to its slender legs, it will add lightness to the interior and won't cause any difficulties with regular vacuuming or sweeping. A soft pouffe or compact armchair will also provide comfort when dressing - the versatile Zouk model will fit into any interior and will not take up much space. And if you have a spacious hallway, there is nothing stopping you from placing a... small 2-seater sofa in it!
TIDINESS AND ORGANISATION
In the corridor, we also need accessories to improve our daily rituals. On the wall, for example, there is the Mesh organiser, on which we can hang various small items such as hats, jewellery, scarves and shawls with the help of special hooks. The set also includes two boxes and a round mirror. However, if we want to look at ourselves from head to toe before we leave the house, we can also hang a large, oblong mirror in the hallway, which will also help to illuminate and optically enlarge the small space.
Space for small items can be found on the Slot board, on which shelves and hooks can be hung. This clever solution is ideal for small spaces where we want to fill every scrap of free space with every useful feature.
A multifunctional whiteboard will also help to keep things organised, where we can leave messages or important notes - for ourselves or others in the household. These can be pinned to the soft Felis felt board or written on with chalk on the surface of the Week organiser. This way we won't forget a shopping list, an important meeting or a guest visit.
LIGHTING FOR THE HALLWAY
The hallway, especially in a block of flats, is often a tiny and dark room - which is why proper lighting is so important. We can borrow a bit of natural light from the rooms adjacent to the hallway. All we need to do is install glazed doors in them. The frosted or milky glass lets the sunlight through the windows, while at the same time providing privacy for the people in the rooms.
Adequate lighting will also come in handy to facilitate evening outings. On the ceiling we can hang the Dione lamp with five milky shades. Its geometric form will emphasise the character of modern interiors, and thanks to its open construction the light will spread evenly in all directions, reaching every corner of the room.
The atmosphere in the hallway can be created with additional light points: discreet, round Notte wall lamps, an elegant lampshade lamp placed on a table or chest of drawers, or a tall Grulla floor lamp. Match them with light in the right colour temperature: warm if you want the hallway to feel as cosy as possible, or neutral if you often touch up your make-up in the corridor just before leaving the house.
DECORATIONS
At the end of creating our hallway arrangement, let's not forget the decorations. A vase of fresh flowers, atmospheric lanterns or decorative crockery will help to make the space feel even cosier.
We can decorate the walls with pictures and graphics in vivid colours or hang favourite photos and mementos on them. A wall clock is also useful in the hallway. The elegant gold Istanbul model will add variety to the interior and help keep your hand on the pulse during your morning preparations.
