Which lamp to choose
for your desk? ideal countertop lighting
Desk lighting plays an important role. It allows us to illuminate the tabletop accurately, takes care of our eyes, but also improves our mood and facilitates concentration. We suggest which desk light will fulfil all these tasks and, in addition, will be a designer addition to the interior.
What do a home office, a child's room and a living room have in common? All of these rooms can be used for work or study. When arranging a corner with a desk, we should pay special attention to choosing the right lighting. We should take into account not only aesthetic considerations, but above all the power, colour and angle of the light.
Proper desk lighting - what should it look like?
The starting point when choosing lighting should be the height of the household member who will use the desk most often. The lamp should be positioned in such a way that it evenly illuminates the work surface of the piece of furniture and at the same time does not interfere with the task at hand. Adjust the parameters of the light bulb to the size of the desk and the type of work. For example, the illuminance of a computer desk should be around 500 lux. Similar recommendations apply to traditional office work.
It is recommended that the wattage of the bulb illuminating the desk should be between 40 and 100 W for small spaces and between 100 and 150 W for large interiors. When choosing LED bulbs, pay attention to the information on the packaging. The manufacturer should specify what wattage of a traditional incandescent bulb the product corresponds to.
As for the colour of the lighting, the best colour for our eyesight will be the one close to daylight. This will ensure that we do not tire our eyes and can easily focus on our duties. Cold light is even better for concentration. Depending on your preferences, choose an incandescent bulb between 4000 and 6500 K or a desk lamp with adjustable light colour and intensity. In this way, we can adjust the lighting to the room conditions and the type of work performed, which will have a positive impact on our comfort and productivity.
Let's also take care of the aesthetics. A desk lamp that matches the style of the room and our interior design preferences will also please us when left switched off.
Which desk lamp? Preferably LED!
The use of traditional incandescent lamps is slowly becoming a thing of the past, also when it comes to desk lighting. For the sake of the planet and your monthly bills, it is worth choosing energy-saving LEDs. These use considerably less energy compared to their tungsten predecessors and, in addition, last much longer.
While opting for ecological solutions, do not forget about comfort and aesthetics. The modern Ester desk lamp is available in two colours: white and black, thanks to which it will easily fit into your interior design. The source of light closed behind a milky cover emits soft, well-diffused light. Its intensity and colour can be controlled by an elegant knob.
If you do the job at the same time every day, you can save time preparing your workstation. Ester will remember the last settings and, when restarted, will switch on with the same parameters. The original design of the lamp is also noteworthy. Two long movable arms and a large movable head give the possibility to adjust the height and angle of the light to our needs.
A good choice for a desk would also be the Karl lamp, adjustable in as many as three places. This model also allows the colour temperature and light output to be changed - we can control it via a touch button. The LED lamp is available in a universal white colour, so it can be used in the office, bedroom or child's room. An additional advantage is the memory of the last settings.
A double-sided desk with integrated LED lighting in the top rail will ensure that we don't run out of valuable space on our work surface. Using the supplied remote control, select its brightness level to create a space for creative work or to create a cosy atmosphere in the interior. The strip will easily illuminate the entire space to suit our current needs.
Floor and wall lamps - clever ways to light up your desk
The ideal lamp doesn't have to be on the tabletop at all. A multifunctional floor lamp with an adjustable design will also be a good way to light up your desk. When working, it can be placed near the tabletop and when relaxing, right next to the bed or armchair. The Grulla model, which also comes in a version with a handy table, will prove useful in this role.
Similarly, a wall-mounted wall lamp offers great freedom of use. The Job lamp, available in two colour versions, attracts attention with its timeless aesthetics and ergonomic use. The movable arms make it easy to adjust the angle of incidence of the light to the needs of the moment.
Which desk lamp for a child?
The lamp in a child's room should keep pace with the ideas of the growing occupant. One time it will enable him to do his homework, another time to create an original comic strip. Any model with an adjustable shade that concentrates the light source in one place will be a good choice for the desk. The simple Kono lamp will last for years, as will the slightly more space-consuming Collo model with an extendable arm.
An interesting addition to the room could be a mobile lamp that the child can take with him wherever he needs illumination. If necessary, it will serve as a desk lamp, dresser lamp or night light. A teenager's room should not be without a model that is equipped with additional functions. The Brit lamp includes an organiser for school supplies, while the Ball wall lamp includes a shelf and a USB output, forming a handy charger in duo.
As an additional source of light, the Twinkly Flex LED strip, placed behind the desk or on an adjacent wall, will work well. In the evening, it will offset the high contrast between the study area and the rest of the room, providing healthy conditions for developing eyes. With its controllable lighting effects, it will also introduce an atmosphere conducive to creativity.
