Christmas decorations are one of those elements without which many of us cannot imagine Christmas at all. How do you decorate your home for Christmas so that the soothing scent of woods, the spicy aroma of gingerbread and the soft light of candles welcomes you at the doorstep?

You don't have to buy new decorations every year - you can easily create them yourself. Make use of a few things you have at home, transform your interior with floral accents or turn your decorations and accessories into something completely new.

It doesn't take much to bring that special, warm and homely Christmas atmosphere inside with your own table, door or wall decorations. Here are 11 simple ideas for Christmas decorations that we can make ourselves.

1. make your own advent calendar

An advent calendar can be one of the first Christmas decorations to grace our four corners. A chain full of little surprises hung on the door will remind us every day that Christmas is just around the corner. The youngest members of the household will especially enjoy this sweet countdown to Christmas.

Let's start preparing the advent calendar by making paper pockets in which to place our sweet surprises. You will need coloured paper, glue, ribbon and labels with which to mark the numbers of the windows. We can also write them directly on the parcels.

Fold small envelopes out of the paper and make small holes in them for the ribbon to thread through. Tie knots to close the surprise pockets. We can hang our advent calendar on the wall or door. Choose your favourite festive colours for it!

2 - Christmas jar candle holders

One of the most impressive Christmas decorations are lanterns - irreplaceable for creating an atmosphere of warmth and closeness. How can you decorate your home with them for Christmas?

To make them yourself, you can use glass containers or jars. Put spruce branches, pinecones and candles in them. If you fill the container with water beforehand, you can also diffuse the gentle light coming from them. The glass lanterns can be placed on a Christmas table or displayed on a chest of drawers, bookcase or windowsill.

3. glass baubles

Glass not only gently reflects light, but also adds lightness to your Christmas decorations. Lightweight glass baubles are perfect: on winter evenings, small decorations placed in them will look as if they are floating in the air.

Put mistletoe, conifer branches, red beads or small toys and figurines in hanging candle holders. Even a few pendants in different sizes are enough to create an original Christmas tree decoration. We don't even have to hang them - they work just as well as the centrepiece of a Christmas tree decor on a table or dresser.

4th Gate of mistletoe

It is said that the tradition of kissing under the mistletoe was brought to Europe by the Vikings. For them, the densely leafy branches were a symbol of love. Today, mistletoe is one of the most Christmassy plants, which we often hang on the ceiling, lamp or just above the door. We can use it to create a really unique yet simple Christmas decoration for our four corners.

In the living room, dining room or around the front door, we can hang a green gate of mistletoe sprigs. Attach them around the doorframe with florist wire or hang them on jute string. Mistletoe will come in handy when we want to completely transform our interiors for Christmas. Its unique fragrance will spread throughout the entire flat.

5. a minimalist wreath for the wall or door

If you are looking for ideas for simple Christmas decorations, this winter wreath is definitely one of them. The base of the wreath can be a piece of wire or a metal hoop to which you can attach plant decorations. This can be done with pine or spruce needles, hawthorn, eucalyptus leaves, red holly, dried orange slices, boxwood stems or pinecones.

Attach the accessories to the base with hot glue or tie with thin wire. For the Christmas wreath, you can find a place on the wall in the bedroom or living room, decorate the door with it or place it on the Christmas table.

A wreath made of coniferous twigs is another simple decoration with which to enrich your Christmas home decor with natural accents. Sometimes you don't need anything else - especially in interiors full of wooden elements. Fragrant green needles combined with warm wood tones on the floor or furniture fronts will help create a festive atmosphere, especially if you don't like too much pomp.

6. lanterns not only for the interior

Lanterns are a classic decorative element that simply adds Christmas magic to an interior. Filled with candles or LED lights, they create a subtle, flickering light perfect for long winter evenings. You can use ready-made lanterns or create your own using jars, metal frames or wooden bases. Add festive touches such as pinecones, garlands or tiny baubles for a decoration that becomes the focal point of the room. Lanterns can be used both indoors and outdoors - placed on a terrace or balcony, they will welcome your guests with a warm glow right from the doorstep.

7. twigs in jars

With a small coniferous forest in a jar, we will smuggle small natural accents into the house with which to decorate shelves and bookcases, a chest of drawers or a coffee table. This is an extremely simple and versatile Christmas decoration for the home, which can also decorate our interiors throughout the year.

Place some soil in a small glass container or jar, and insert a spruce branch into the fleece prepared in this way (which can also be successfully replaced by a little water). You can shape it beforehand to resemble a small tree - or even decorate it with ribbons or beads.

8. Hanging lamp decoration

Pine, spruce or fir branches can also be used to create a luscious green wreath to decorate a hanging lamp or chandelier. Simply attach them gently with florist wire. If green branches are not enough for you, you can complete your Christmas decoration with long red ribbons. A striking accent hanging from the ceiling will warm up the interior in no time at all and will bring the soothing scent of conifers into the entire room.

9. Christmas cottage

The most versatile accessories are those that can even become Christmas decorations if required. A good example of this is the Melvo spatial form, which can be transformed from a candle holder or flowerpot into a Christmas crib or miniature gingerbread house.

On the wooden base you can place small ornaments and figurines or shapes cut out of stiff paper: Christmas trees, animals or stars. The metal frame, on the other hand, is a good place for conifer branches, ribbons, small baubles or gingerbread men on a string. Whether you're putting together a colourful centrepiece for your hallway or a modest Christmas decoration for your home office, you shouldn't be short of ideas.

10. gingerbread decorations

Our Christmas inspirations are completed with homemade gingerbread men, which are perfect to decorate your Christmas tree or centrepiece. The sweets can be on a platter or in a tin, but there's no need to limit yourself at Christmas - decorate the whole house with them and let the warm, spicy aroma envelop the interiors.

Tie gingerbread cookies with string and hang them in various places: in the living room, the hallway or the children's room. Involve the youngest members of the family in the preparation of the cakes. Cutting out shapes and making baked goods is really fun!

11. handmade paper decorations

If you want to give your Christmas decorations a personal touch, try making them yourself. Paper ornaments not only help to create a special atmosphere, but they also allow you to spend creative time with your loved ones. Paper baubles, cut out from coloured sheets and glued together to form three-dimensional balls, are a perfect substitute for traditional glass decorations. They can be personalised by adding glitter, painting patterns or using paper with different textures.

Paper chains are another timeless staple - colourful strips, joined together in striking loops, are perfect for Christmas trees, curtain rods or as wall decorations.

Handmade Christmas cards are not only a beautiful decoration, but also a unique way to express your Christmas wishes in a personal and creative way. With colourful paper, cut-outs and glitter, you can create unique cards that will delight any recipient and emphasise the magic of the festive season.
