How to choose
the right lighting
for a child's room? for learning and relaxation
A lamp in a child's room should be a real special task device that not only chases away monsters and nightmares, but also makes play or study more comfortable. In order to find the perfect one, it is therefore worth thinking carefully about the choice and positioning of the lighting in our child's room.
A little one needs the right conditions for sleep, rest, but also for play or a better understanding of the world. We very often bear this in mind when choosing the right bed or desk to suit his or her height. Lighting for a child's room is an equally important element that affects not only the aesthetics of the interior, but also helps with homework or increases the comfort of reading favourite books full of interesting stories. How do you plan the lighting in a place where creative play and leisure intermingle uninhibitedly?
BABY ROOM LIGHTING: LAMPS FOR THE LITTLE ONES
The baby's room is a real oasis of calm. Light, pastel colours, natural fabrics and not too flashy decorations are a good place for young children to develop. It is advisable to plan the lighting in such a room in a special way to further enhance your little one's sense of comfort and security.
When decorating the baby's room, it is a good idea to separate the different areas in advance. A place for feeding and changing will certainly come in handy, but it is also important to arrange the sleeping area. Each of these areas needs a different type of lighting, but the common denominator should be an invisible light source regardless of where in the room the baby is.
When choosing the main ceiling light, don't forget to make sure that the aesthetics match the style of the children's room. Therefore, textured pendant lights or those with soft lampshades will work particularly well. To avoid glare, try to avoid models with exposed bulbs.
Lamps with a dimmer function will also work well in a toddler's room, especially useful at night when you want to check on a sleeping baby or find a dummy that has just been thrown away. For older children who experience a fear of the dark, it can also prove to be an excellent soother.
CHILDREN'S ROOM LIGHTS: PRESCHOOLER'S PLAYTIME
An older child's day is definitely longer than that of a toddler, especially if it is accompanied by great play. Especially in autumn or winter, when the sun goes down relatively quickly, a toddler plays in his room even after dark. It is definitely hard to predict which place will become the centre of play at the moment, which is why a lamp hung in the centre of the room can be useful.
It is worthwhile that the little preschooler's kingdom is also equipped with basic desk lighting. The first artworks, colourful drawings or laurels for beloved grandparents are created in the little artist's studio, which should be equipped with good lighting. When choosing a particular lamp, be sure to select LED or OLED light fittings with low operating temperatures. The latter are a modern technology that makes the lamp emit light over its entire surface. Consequently, it does not cause an unpleasant glare effect.
LIGHTING FOR CHILDREN: SLEEP AND REGENERATION
When arranging the lighting in our little one's room, don't forget to provide him with several lighting scenes, including special night lighting. If our little one does not need strong light, you can think about hanging colourful cotton Happy Lights, which will also make an interesting decoration.
Slightly older children, who like to immerse themselves in the world of fairy tale characters before bedtime, will need a more powerful reading lamp. In this case, a floor or dresser lamp with an adjustable shade is ideal. The child will then be able to direct the beam of light to the spot they wish to illuminate. In this way, the children's eyes will be kept healthy and their vision will not be strained by well-chosen lighting.
A WELL-LIT LEARNING SPACE
Even several-year-olds spend a lot of time at their desks. The pupil's room should therefore be equipped with comfortable furniture that will help the child maintain the correct posture while studying. Lighting also plays a huge role here, with the task of evenly illuminating the entire table surface.
If our child is right-handed, it is a good idea to position the lamp on his or her left side. This way it will not interfere with homework and, in addition, the child will not block the light. It is also worth noting the shape of the lamp and the possibility to adjust the direction of light. An interesting idea for the arrangement of a child's desk is the Biso commode lamp with an original shape, or the Collo table lamp with a lampshade mounted on an extendable arm. This solution will allow you to perfectly adjust the direction of light to your needs.
When choosing lighting to be used for work, care should be taken to create conditions similar to those favourable to office work. This means that the light intensity in the work area should be around 500 lux and the CRI (colour rendering index) should be at least 80. Maintaining this level will ensure that the illuminated objects look natural and that your child's eyesight will not be fatigued.
SAFE SPACE
The lighting in a child's room should be as safe as the entire surrounding space. While remembering to choose furniture without edges and non-slip carpets, it is also worth leaning into the issue of lighting. Young children are very eager to touch various objects, so the lamp should not contain any elements that heat up easily.
In addition to its natural function, the light coming from the lamp should also make the child feel secure and relaxed. It is therefore not advisable to choose strong bulbs that are not covered with any material. Children are particularly sensitive to harsh light, which makes them irritable and irritable. Weaker chandeliers with weaker bulbs placed in different areas of the children's room are therefore much better. Another solution to the problem of too much light can be lamps with a dimmer function. It is then easy to adjust the light output to suit the occasion or time of day.
It is also important to remember that children's lamps should be made of high-quality materials such as wood, rattan or high-quality textiles. The room of an infant or a toddler should also be equipped with lighting that does not contain small parts that can be dangerous. When planning the décor, try to hide any protruding wires that could cause the child to trip or pull out the cable from the plug.
