Finding an idea for a room for a teenage boy is not easy - especially when the available space is limited by slants. Such a challenge, however, was taken up by Bożena Kostrubała, VOX stylist, who prepared functional designs for youth rooms for brothers in the loft.

The right room arrangement can satisfy not only the need for privacy, but also the desire to express one's own style. This was precisely the aim of the VOX expert when she created the designs for the young occupants, who are full of interesting passions. The visualisations were created using the VOXBOX programme, available to anyone looking for a way to create a virtual interior design for their home.

Those who need support in the design process can make an appointment to visit a VOX showroom of their choice and receive free assistance from a consultant. Together with him or her, they will design a space perfectly tailored to their needs. But let's go back to the teenage brothers, who lived to see their dream rooms.

DESIGNING A TEENAGE BOY'S ROOM - IN SEARCH OF IDEAS

Designing a private space for a teenager is a big challenge. It turned out to be even bigger when we decided to make designs for two brothers who are different in almost every way. The 3D visualisations were created for real individualists with different interests. One of the future occupants was an 11-year-old athlete, a fan of fast skateboarding and a tennis fan. The teenager likes bold colours and appreciates minimalism. The second room, on the other hand, is reserved for the 14-year-old, who spends every free moment at the console or practising guitar lessons. The older brother feels most comfortable in interiors dominated by dark colours.

When undertaking the task of designing the youth rooms, we were given two rooms. Both with an identical surface area of just under 12 m2. The sloping ceilings in the house became a limitation and a challenge in the design. However, locating the boys' rooms in the attic opened up room for clever use of the tapering walls.

"Our priority was to design an ergonomic space in which the boys' passions would play an important role. We wanted to set aside zones for relaxation, storage and study, but also for self-expression. In order not to take up valuable space on the furniture, we used only ceiling lights. Playing with light and the materials used helped to create a dynamic atmosphere. We carefully selected furniture to meet all practical needs and at the same time emphasise the hobbies of the young occupants, making their rooms unique. There was no shortage of unobvious solutions. What was a hanging shelf became a handy bookcase, and the bookcase turned into an open display case for sports equipment," comments Bożena Kostrubała.

A YOUTH ROOM IN THE ATTIC WITH A SLANT FOR AN ATHLETE

In the room of a young devotee of physical exercise and recreation, there could not be room for a special piece of furniture, which is a kind of sports showcase. The capacious Creative bookcase makes it possible to display large items such as the beloved skateboard or tennis racquets. In doing so, we kept in mind the need for privacy. The space behind the closed door allows for the storage of treasures that only the room's owner should have access to.

Right next to the bookcase, there is a comfortable Looz armchair for relaxing after a successful workout. It is light enough to be moved around by the boy himself. On the floor, the stylist placed a metal basket for storing balls and on the shelf, a metal first aid kit, so that plasters are always at hand to treat minor injuries. The teenage athlete's room also contains plenty of free space for him to practice simple skateboarding tricks.

An obligatory element of every student's room is a functional study area. We have equipped this area with a modern desk tailored to the needs of the young occupant. Under the spacious top, the boy will find drawers for small items, and a practical trough will allow him to conveniently put his laptop charger or smartphone. Thanks to the metal legs, the furniture fits well into the character of the room. A swivel chair with a flexible backrest and height-adjustable seat, as well as carefully selected lighting, complete the look. The Ball pendant lamps gave the design coherence and made a colourful connection with the concrete walls and light grey vinyl panels.

At the entrance to the youth room in the loft, the stylist planned a 3-door wardrobe - it can easily accommodate both everyday clothes and those used for sports activities. A low Creative bed on a metal frame, which is also present with other furniture, helped to make the space under the slanting ceilings functional. The large headrest will serve as a comfortable backrest in the evening while reading books or sports commentaries on the tablet. Nighttime reading will be facilitated by a lamp - suspended above the bed so as not to waste space on the bedside table, which the boy has so far rarely used.

"To the basic palette of neutral colours, we added a strongly dynamising yellow. The energetic shade emphasised the sporty spirit of the young occupant. The most important piece of furniture in his room was a specially designed bookcase related to the boy's interests. The entire room design was built around this piece," explains the VOX stylist.

A ROOM PROJECT FOR A BOY WHO LOVES MUSIC AND VIDEO GAMES

The idea for a youth room design for the older brother was born moments after we got to know his interests. Competing with his peers in console games is one of the two ways the boy most enjoys spending his free time. He also has a passion for playing the acoustic guitar, which he takes with him almost everywhere.

So the stylist decided to highlight what is most important to the teenager on the main wall in his room. The centrepiece was a piece of gaming equipment and an instrument stand. The hobby zone was also furnished with two soft armchairs with granola, and a low RTV cabinet was placed under the TV to store game pads and discs.

When discussing his dream room, the boy drew attention to the colours right from the start. The teenager likes to be surrounded by dark colours, so he wanted the interior to be subdued and somewhat muted. Finding an idea for the walls in this teenager's room was relatively easy - Kerradeco Wood panels with a wooden décor created a timeless background for the furnishings.

The bigger challenge was to choose furniture that would meet the requirements of the future occupant. The final solution proposed by the stylist became black and grey solids, complemented by elegant leather handles. The interior design and furniture finishes were enabled by the Creative system, which offers hundreds of unique combinations.

"When designing the older brother's room, we wanted to create a specific mood. We reached for a variety of textures and textures that reflect light in different ways. Leather, metal, smooth fronts - none of these elements are random. Together they form a unique whole that reflects the unique character of a teenager," adds the stylist.

As in the room of the younger boy, there is also a comfortable study area. At the heart of the room stood a desk with a well-lit work surface and an ergonomic armchair. The space under the bevel was supplemented with hanging shelves and cupboards, which not only increase the available space for storing books, but also provide an interesting decorative element.

At the request of the future owner of the room, the room included a capacious wardrobe for clothes. The bottom of the furniture was equipped with handy drawers, which the teenager can use in a similar way to a bedside table. They can easily store the phone charger, TV remote control or the latest book.

The relaxation area has been supplemented with a single bed and additional ceiling lighting. The colours and durable materials used mean that the designed interior can serve the boy for several years to come, even when he reaches adulthood.
